Robyn Spady produces beautiful and functional fabrics for clothing,
scarves, purses, bookmarks, jewelry, and more. Below is a sampling
of her custom garments.
L’ eau de Monet (Fr. Monet’s
water) - One of my favorite artists is Claude Monet. I especially
love the way he renders water in many of his paintings. There’s
a calming essence to them and the fabric for this vest was inspired
by his work. The cotton warp is hand-dyed and woven with single
cotton weft. The vest is completely lined, has hand-worked buttonholes,
and was made for the guild booth display for the ANWG 2005 conference.
A Not-so-classic Pinstripe - In this cotton tunic, the classic
pinstripe was re-interpreted. Instead of light pinstripes, they
were designed to be dark with the larger areas resembling cobblestone
pathways. The side panels were turned on the diagonal (not quite
bias) to add something kind of different and the entire garment
is lined in silver dupioni silk. This tunic was exhibited in
the Leaders exhibit at Convergence 2004 in Denver, CO.
Bohemian Blacklight Blur - This haori-style jacket
is a celebration of color and structure. The fabric for this
jacket is made from bright colorful satin stripes framing black-on-black
M&W pattern. The multi-colored stripes were made from a
variegated rayon and designed to look like bright colors under
a blacklight rushing by to create a sense of motion. There are
even multiple shades of black in the warp. This jacket has a
soft sculpture feel to it with a light-weight layer between
the fabric and peacock-blue dupioni silk.

Autumnal Equinox - As seasons change, so do the
colors of the Pacific Northwest. Autumnal Equinox celebrates
the sensory overload with the rich fall colors ranging from
subtle gold to brilliant reds and burgundies to rich russet
browns, along with flashes of other colors. The fabric is a
cotton 16-shaft twill warp woven with a variegated rayon. The
Chinese brocade lining and velveteen trim helps take this reversible
jacket well into to the coming holiday season.
