Short Course in Jewelry Making for Fiber Artists


Simple earrings made from thrums
    With a few simple tools and a little imagination, participants will learn basic jewelry-making techniques in this hands-on workshop and see how to transform thrums and “weftovers” into different types of jewelry using traditional and non-traditional jewelry findings. Participants will complete pieces suitable for wearing

In the 1/2-day version, there is a brief overview of several different techniques and time for participants to work on the technique of their choice. There is a maximum of 16 participants for 1/2-day version

In the one-day version, techniques are presented individually and participants will have the opportunity to work on each one during the workshop. There is a maximum of 24 participants for one-day version

Level: Beginner (plus, good eyesight and manual dexterity)

Weaver-manipulated Lace Weaves


Weaver-manipulated lace weave sampler
    If your loom can weave plain weave, there are an amazing number of weaver-manipulated lace weaves that are possible, including Danish medallion, leno, Spanish lace, Brooks bouquet, and more! These weaves are great for embellishing fabric and adding that little something extra without needing more than two shafts.

In the 1/2-day version, there is a brief overview of several weaver-manipulated lace techniques and time for participants to work on the technique(s) of their choice. There is a maximum of 16 participants for 1/2-day version

In the one-day version, weaver-manipulated lace techniques are presented individually and participants will have the opportunity to work on each one during the workshop. Hemstitching variations are also covered in the one-day version. There is a maximum of 24 participants for one-day version

Inkle Weaving in the 21st Century

    The inkle loom is one of the simplest looms around and its amazing potential is often overlooked and undervalued. This studio class is a combination of presentation and hands-on work. Participants will observe new ways to design and create bands for traditional and non-traditional uses and set up their inkle looms to create bands, trim, and ribbon that may be used to create exciting embellishments and jewelry.

In the 1/2-day version, there is a brief presentation on inkle weaving and setting up an inkle loom. Participants will have the opportunity to warp a narrow band on their inkle looms. There is a maximum of 16 participants for 1/2-day version

In the one-day version, in addition to the brief presentation on inkle weaving and setting up an inkle loom, there is an additional presentation of advanced techniques possible on an inkle loom such as pick-up techniques and galloon-style trims. There is a maximum of 24 participants for one-day version
